Tradition continues with change of command
NATICK, Mass. -- A long standing military tradition, passing of the colors, continued with the change of command for the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment (HHD) on Aug. 26.
Col. Dorothy Johnson, deputy commander, Soldier Systems Center, welcomed Capt. Luis Alvarez, the incoming commander, HHD, and had words of thanks for Capt. Cheryl Tennant, the outgoing commander, HHD.
Johnson mentioned that being the commander is a tough job, but that there is nothing more rewarding.
She said that Tennant stayed involved and cared about the Soldiers under her command. Throughout her time here, Tennant commanded more than 360 Soldiers, many of whom were only here for a short time as human research volunteers. Her innovations with training and ability to think out of the box ensured that HHD Soldiers would be ready to deploy once they completed their assignments at Natick.
Johnson said, “She is a caring leader who made a difference.”
Welcoming Alvarez, Johnson said that the position he is moving into is challenging and rewarding and she expects him to take care of the Natick Soldiers and their families while accomplishing their mission.
Tennant said she has had many great experiences here, and there are a lot of dedicated people at Natick who help make warfighters’ lives better on the battlefield.
To the Soldiers of HHD, she thanked them for their motivated attitudes and told them to remember to “be proud to be a Soldier.”
Alvarez jokingly said the great thing about being the incoming commander was that he could make a short speech. He said he was fortunate to inherit the Soldiers in HHD and looked forward to working with them to contribute to the future of the Army.
