Exercise to take place at U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center (Natick Labs)

NATICK, Mass. The U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center (SSC), known locally as Natick Labs, will be conducting a security exercise on Oct. 20, 2005. The exercise will involve local emergency services, such as Natick fire and police departments, National Guard Civil Support Team, the Massachusetts State Police bomb squad, Department of Defense police and SSC contract guards. The exercise is scheduled from approximately 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A large number of emergency vehicles will be in the area of SSC during the exercise and traffic may be impacted in the immediate vicinity, and specifically on Kansas St. Simulated explosions may be heard and smoke may be seen during the time frame above. Residents should be aware that this is an exercise and there is no need for alarm.

This is a mandated exercise to test the responsiveness and capabilities of SSC and local responders for handling a high-level threat.

Media are invited to observe the exercise; however, if you wish to do so, you must make arrangements ahead of time. To make arrangements or for further information, please call the Public Affairs Office at 508-233-5340.
