Natick's Chief Counsel receives AMC award

NATICK, Mass. --   John Stone, chief counsel, U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center and U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center here is the recipient of the U.S. Army Materiel Command's (AMC) Joyce I. Allen Attorney of the Year Award for 2008.

Robert Parise, command counsel chief, AMC, presented Stone with the award July 10 during the AMC Continuing Legal Education Program Conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Each year, the award is given to a civilian or military attorney or patent advisor for outstanding accomplishments or professional achievements in the service of the legal profession and the community. The award commemorates Joyce I. Allen, who was an attorney for AMC.

Stone's certificate reads, "For over 28 years, he consistently demonstrated an uncanny depth of knowledge across broad practice areas."

Referring to ethics regulations, fiscal rules and the Berry Amendment, the certificate also says, "his expertise has been and continues to be solicited by clients, peers and the attorneys he leads."

"It's always gratifying to be recognized amongst one's peers. I'm deeply grateful to the attorneys and staff in the Natick legal office, who somehow manage to make me look good," Stone said, "and who nominated me for this award at great risk to their personal integrity," he added jokingly.

Stone received a certificate of achievement signed by Gen. Benjamin Griffin, commander, AMC, and a statue of a swooping eagle.
