Lieutenant Colonel Frank K. Sobchak was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1992 after graduating from the United States Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Military History.  In 2002, LTC Sobchak earned a Master of Arts degree in Arab Studies from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.  He is fluent in Modern Standard Arabic and Spanish.  His military education includes the Military Intelligence Officer Basic course, Armor Officer Advanced course, Special Forces Qualification course, Special Forces Basic Military Language course, Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape Level C course, Combined Arms Services Staff School (CAS3), and Command and General Staff College (CGSC).

 

LTC Sobchak served in numerous command and staff positions in the United States and overseas.  He began his career as a Military Intelligence Officer at Fort Stewart, GA with 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor serving as an assistant S-2 and deploying to Kuwait.  He then transitioned to the 124th Military Intelligence Battalion and served as a Ground Surveillance Radar Platoon Leader and Headquarters Company Executive Officer.  After being selected for Special Forces and completing the training requirements, he became a Special Forces Branch officer.  He was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, KY and commanded Operational Detachment Alphas (ODAs) 536 and 531.  He commanded the ODAs through numerous training exercises, three Joint Task Force-6 counter-narcotics missions, a live environment-training mission to Jordan, and a deployment to Kosovo as the Liaison and Coordination Element (LCE) to the special operations forces of the United Arab Emirates.  Following detachment command, LTC Sobchak completed graduate school and taught World History, The History of Islamic Revolutionary Movements, and the History of Peacekeeping, Peace Enforcement, and Low Intensity Conflict at the U.S. Military Academy.  After completing CGSC, LTC Sobchak returned to the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), and took command of Operational Detachment Bravo 520 for a deployment to Iraq and then served as the Battalion S-3 for 1st Battalion.  In 2007, LTC Sobchak was selected to serve as a Congressional Liaison for U. S. Special Operations Command in Washington, D.C., and later served as the Deputy Director of the command’s Legislative Affairs office.  LTC Sobchak assumed command of the US Army Garrison-Natick in 10 June 2011.

 

LTC Sobchak’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), and the National Defense Service Medal.  LTC Sobchak has earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Special Forces Tab, and the Ranger Tab.  He also earned German and Dutch Parachutist Badges and was serving in units while they were awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award.

 

LTC Sobchak is married to LTC Iris (Risa) Sobchak of Athens, Georgia and they have 4 children: Josh, Nathaniel, Catherine, and Frank William.
